James (Jim) McLaughlin

My grandfather James McLaughlin has always been an inspiration to me.  He was my namesake and his artwork is displayed prominently in the house I grew up in.  Sadly, he died just 2 short years before my birth.  At the time of his death, he had been the Curator of The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC for 7 years and associated with the collection since 1932 when he first moved to Washington and attended painting classes at the Phillips Gallery Art School.

Despite the fact that our artwork is often quite different in style and form, I still feel special knowing he would have loved to share his art with me.  I also know he would have been immensely happy I was continuing to create art, whatever type or style it was.
